Consumer confidence continues to slide. Percentage who think economy will get weaker in next six months hits a five year high.

Consumer confidence continues to be on a negative trajectory. When asked if the economy will get stronger, weaker or have no change in the next six month, two of three asserted weaker. Numerically the weaker economy score has not been this high in almost five years.
The BNCCI, a composite of a weekly measure of financial health and economic expectations, registered at 45.14 compared to 47.43 four weeks ago. The twelve-month high stands at 56.74.
The Bloomberg Nanos Pocketbook Index is based on survey responses to questions on personal finances and job security. This sub-indice was at 51.31 this week compared to 53.84 four weeks ago. The Bloomberg Nanos Expectations Index, based on surveys for the outlook for the economy and real estate prices, was at 38.96 this week compared to 41.01 four weeks ago.
The average for the BNCCI since 2008 has been 55.12 with a low of 37.08 in April 2020 and a high of 66.42 in July 2021. The index has averaged 48.83 this year.
